About me, Virginia, the artist
behind Fire Imp Lampwork Designs:
Artist Statement:
Throughout my life I have found
myself drawn to things ancient and worn by time. I
often marvel at the architecture and adornments of
times past, not just for the beauty of the details,
but because of the craftsmanship that it took to create
them.
I am often struck by the loss of craftsmanship in
modern society. We live in a world where most things
are disposable, and are not intended to exist for
any length of time. For the discerning patron, it
is truly a challenge to find things beautiful and
well crafted.
For these reasons, I have chosen to follow in the
footsteps of ancient Venetian lampworkers. This old-world
artform allows me to create unique artbeads, and contribute
something beautiful in an age where beauty is often
lacking.
History:
I actually only been making
glass beads for about five years,
so I'm relatively young as beadmakers go. I say that
tongue in cheek,
because I'm also young age-wise as beadmakers go.
(I'm not telling you my age, you'll just have to look
at the photo and guess!)
The age difference can be intimidating at times, but
on the upnote,
since I've started so young I might actually master
this artform!
. I'm also a member of the
ISGB, Patuxent Lapidary Guild, and Highland Rim Chapter
of TACA.
I have several shows later
this year,
so maybe I'll see some of you there!
I'm sure that's enough, but if there's anything else
you
absolutely must know, go ahead and e-mail me. :)
